Shanty Town 2024 was a huge success!! This great group of kids raised over $650 for Habitat for Humanity, with more donations coming in the morning after they spoke about their night in front of the congregation. They braved the frigid temperatures in order to better understand what it might be like to be homeless. The 8 participants slept in their cardboard shanties on the church lawn, ate a simple dinner and breakfast together, played a finance simulation game, had to meal plan for their fictitious families using food from the food pantry, and had a blast making s’mores around the fire and running around the church yard at night. I’m so thankful to them for having such great spirits and for asking to bring this event back to West Bloomfield Congregational Church. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored these kids, and encourages them to share their giving spirits!
